The tragic news just in that a 20 year-old bodyboarder, David Lilienfeld, suffered fatal injuries after being attacked by a Great White Shark while surfing at the ‘Caves’ at Kogel Bay beach on the Eastern side of False Bay, has led to an outcry from local and international shark experts and ocean users.

The Unlimited Non Stop Dusi veteran takes to the water for the 16th time
Eric Bothma, 45, can be considered an average middle aged family man, but with one very special difference; he has done every Non Stop Dusi race since the first one in 1997, and celebrates his 16th race by paddling with the same partner he had on that first race.
Pietermaritzburg – Top contenders for The Unlimited Dusi canoe marathon Hank McGregor and Len Jenkins have made a last minute change to their set-up for the three day race that starts at Camps Drift on Thursday morning, seeking to get the best out of their K2 combination that will line up against a very strong field in the seeded A batch.
In response to recent reports of a person having been infected by a flesh eating bacteria called Vibrio vulnificus while paddling in the ocean just off the Bluff, Metro officials confirmed on Thursday that the bacteria would not affect The Unlimited Dusi canoe marathon next week.

Dusi hyacinth battle heats up as chopper joins the fight
Efforts to rid the Umgeni River of hyacinth have been given a new breath of life thanks to the efforts of Working For Water, who have pulled out all the stops in the latest removal effort, bringing in a helicopter to spray the alien weeds.
One of the best athletes that South Africa has ever produced, Zola Budd, confirmed her participation in the Comrades Marathon which will be held on 3 June 2012 from Pietermaritzburg to Durban.
The Unlimited Dusi takes place on February 16, 17 and 18. The race has become the biggest Canoe Marathon in the world, but few understand the significance and history of the world famous event.
Natal canoe club, the organisers of the world’s biggest canoe marathon, The Unlimited Dusi, report that all is going well with preparations for the event in January.
